Build a Database Agent with MCP

A useful database agent does not need arbitrary SQL. Give it task-level tools such as customer lookup, sales summaries, and schema resources.

Recommended architecture

Agent → MCP tools → Domain query service → Read replica / DB

Guardrails

• Read-only role by default.
• Parameterized SQL.
• Row and time limits.
• Tenant-aware authorization.
• Structured result schemas.

If write operations are required, separate them into explicit tools and require additional authorization or human approval for high-impact actions.
